Shaker Organic Gardens: Root crop season in full swing

The latest updates on Shaker Organic Gardens
from Stacey Cooper, Co-op Organic Farm Manager

We are full swing into root crop season. We have been busy harvesting our enormous carrots and sending them along to the kitchen, produce department, farm stand and Micro Mama’s. We have also been sending along our rutabaga, beets, scallions, radish, cabbage, leeks, garlic, summer squash, cucumbers and greens. Our sweet peppers are starting to come in so enjoy on the hot bar at the Co-op!

Look for our edamame in the produce department and enjoy it fresh while it lasts.

We finished transplanting our new strawberry patch and hoping that they will take with the cooling weather.

Our 3rd succession of tri-color beans has started producing and is yielding quite the haul.

When we aren’t harvesting we have been busy weeding and cleaning out our beds to start to prepare for winter… yikes!

We are making plans to prepare more land for use next year and Greg is getting a start on rebuilding the end walls of the hoop house.
